R. Alan Weeks, Shareholder/Director

Mr. Weeks is one of the founders of the Firm's Intellectual Property practice group. He is a registered patent attorney who practices in all areas of intellectual property law. Selected by his peers for both Best Lawyers in America® and Oklahoma Super Lawyers®, Mr. Weeks also teaches intellectual property as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tulsa College of Law.

In addition to maintaining an active patent prosecution and trademark practice, Mr. Weeks has extensive transactional and litigation experience. He has designed and implemented corporate intellectual property protection programs and manages the worldwide intellectual property portfolios for several large clients of the Firm. Mr. Weeks works closely with general counsel and company officers to align their intellectual property strategy with company business interests and to cost effectively resolve IP-related business disputes.

Over the years Mr. Weeks has established valuable relationships with a worldwide network of foreign associates, allowing for the cost efficient filing of international patents and trademarks and the ready handling and management of international business transactions and disputes. He has obtained hundreds of patents and trademarks throughout the world, negotiated and closed numerous international business transactions and resolved intellectual property disputes arising around the globe.

Mr. Weeks was born in 1964 on a U.S. military base (Kuma Station) in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan. He grew up in Greenville, Texas, where he was raised an ardent Texas Longhorn fan. However, having attended both Texas A&M and the University of Texas, Mr. Weeks lays claim each football season to whichever team has the best chance to beat OU (usually to be disappointed twice). He takes comfort spending quality time with his wife Leslie and their two beautiful daughters, Lily and Anna.

Mr. Weeks has experience in obtaining patents in a variety of technical areas and industries and is particularly experienced in biomedical areas such as surgical devices and procedures, nutritional and medical compositions, and cosmetic and prosthetic appliances, in sporting goods and leisure fields such as fishing and boating equipment, outdoor recreation products, exercise equipment and indoor games, and in the representation of academic institutions.

Mr. Weeks handles all manner of domestic and international IP-related transactions, including due diligence, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, option and license agreements, purchase and sale agreements, sales agency and distributorship agreements, development contracts, employment, non-compete and non-circumvention agreements, etc. He also regularly functions as an intermediary for law firms and their clients seeking to anonymously approach IP rights holders to propose potential transactions.

Having begun his legal career in the Trial Group in a large Dallas law firm, Mr. Weeks continues to be involved in litigation matters at Fellers Snider.
